“During the 1990’s, public interest in ‘magick’ and ‘occult’ subjects exponentially rose to new heights as few could have anticipated. I appeared on the “New Age” scene – however much ‘underground’ – in 1995 as ‘Merlyn Stone.‘ As I have explained to others and in my recent autobiographical narrative, NABU SPEAKS!, the name was chosen for personal reasons and not as a tribute to the female author (Merlin Stone) of whom I had not even heard of at that time. My research revealed that ‘Merlyn‘ is not really a proper name, although it has been used to refer to particular figures (or a figure) in history, it is actually a title – a Welsh title – that can be best equated to what you might know as a seer or prophet. The contemporary reader may be more familiar with the Judeo-Christian religious context of the title, which in Hebrew is nabih, derived from the Babylonian name: Nabu – a name that many know me as today.”

“As far as I could observe, however, it was 1995 that provided the largest shift. I took a step back, observing the wide-angle, and I saw the prominence of the newly released motion picture The Craft coupled with Sabrina the Teenage Witch as the featured ‘after-school-special’ of the day. “All of my original ‘writings’ related to the occult field were actually the subject of ‘in-house’ materials prepared for working groups and research oriented studies that I was personally involved with – and often the ‘founder’ of. I began this work publicly in 1995 and it has now been over twenty years since – half of my current existence. It has taken many forms, though it was easiest for me to begin with that which would be most familiar to my target demographic: esotericists, occult practitioners and the up and coming alien youth that usually had inclinations toward the “New Age” naturally.”

“From 1995 through 1999, I assisted in producing not only several ritual collections or ‘Book of Shadows’ for practicing underground groups but also led my own operating and experimental groups and even taught workshops and gave lectures in local Denver-area bookstores and New Age outlets. The sum of all this was collected as the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK OF MERLYN STONE, with additional materials later produced and known now as the Lost Books of Merlyn Stone. Some of these later notebooks and contributions were commissioned for private use or small groups, but even all these twenty years later, some of the records still remain and I have chosen to append them to the traditional presentation of the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK for this twentieth anniversary presentation.”
