PHERYLLT 3 – Completion of Pheryllt “Books of Fferyllt” Trilogy Series by Joshua Free

In ancient Keltia, the Druid Order consisted of learned ones, those educated in Bardic Arts: cosmology and spirituality, natural-native history and geology, legendary history of heroes and mythology, healing and botanical medicine, astrononmy and astronology, and of course ‘magic’ – all of which are hidden in lines of Bardic verse and the researches of those who study them. As primary preservers of Celtic and Druid Mysteries, it is no wonder that Bardic Druids were considered the transmitter or catalyst of -awen- the essence, Divine Spark or spirit of inspiration that the Greeks termed ‘gnosis’. It is to the ‘ebb and flow’ of the -awen field- that the magical and poetic genius of the Bard is attributed.

Preservation of ancient knowledge is key among all elite orders of the ages. This Ancient Mystery School is timeless and spans all places on Earth. Past mystical cultures often relied on elite orders of scribe-priests and poet-magicians to bridge ancestral roots and traditions with the future – orders rooted in ‘languages’, ‘communication’, and above all the written word. The poetic genius of “awen” – the Divine Spark of Creation – manifests throughout all creative arts and as the spirt of “prophecy,” an ability to observe experiences with a heightened awareness and communicate it in the World of Form. Druidism is, therefore, an echo of this “poetic genius,” an amalgamation of collected knowledge preserved by the ancient elite, including a mystical and scientific understanding of the world that eluded the perceptual range of ‘common’ folk.

PHERYLLT: Volume 1
PHERYLLT: Volume 2
PHERYLLT: Volume 3

A unique metaphysical apprenticeship combining diverse facets of knowledge – from practical magic, to Welsh Bardic tradition, to Celtic history, or even foreign philosophies assimilated by the Druids – all appear in Douglas Monroe’s Merlyn Trilogy under a premise of being derived from the Book of Pheryllt (or Books of Fferyllt); a collective ‘body’ of Druidic wisdom also called the Body of the Dragon. As such, a wide array of sources and subjects were required to develop an allegorical facsimile (but legitimately authentic) manifestation of the Book of Pheryllt consistent with the mysterious manner in which Bards and Druids conceal and reveal the secret tradition. Considering the sheer variety of citations and scattered references in Monroe’s work, meeting justifiably high requirements and expectations for the ‘Body of the Dragon’ would require more than one volume to be complete and follow protocols – actually three volumes: a TRIAD interwoven as ONE.

Many antiquated scholarly references to the “Books of Fferyllt” or the “Pheryllt” themselves may be found (included or paraphrased in the current Book of Pheryllt trilogy series facsmile). Whatever bits trickle down from classical literature and antiquarian druidism to satisfy a modern thirst for the ‘pheryllt paradigm’ have been collected together in one place – a sacred book once thirded and now made whole – forming a complete sourcebook of undefiled lore. Whatever name, guise, or title we might attribute to the ‘Body of the Dragon’ – and we have chosen PHERYLLT – this same lore (originally accessible to few) serves as basis for the majority of Celtic and neo-Druidic revival of the past few centuries; whether or not it has been given due credit as such.

PHERYLLT: Volume 1
PHERYLLT: Volume 2
PHERYLLT: Volume 3

Several different cycles of important Celtic and Welsh literature and lore – Hanes Taliesin, Cad Goddeu, the Gwarchans, Cymric Triads, the books of Aneurin, Taliesin, Myrddin… – are all found in the Iolo Manuscripts including the Myvyrian Archaeology anthology and Barddas. In fact, we can essentially trace the abundant wealth of surviving Welsh MS. – including the Mabinogion – back to “Iolo Morganwg” (Edward Williams) and manuscripts ascribed to “Llywelyn Sion.” Where a thick scholarly aura accumulated from years of controversy may surround the ‘authenticity’ of some of these manuscripts, valid substitution shortages have bound the modern revival specifically to these available texts and the tradition gleaned from them.

The Book of Pheryllt trilogy of volumes edited by Joshua Free (also collected together in one volume in the forthcoming “Pheryllt -or- Body of the Dragon” anthology to be released later this year) is the realization of a legendary tome collecting wisdom passed down from an equally legendary ‘priesthood’ known in the histories of the Druids as the PHERYLLT (pronounced FAIR-ee-llt or VAIR-ult) – those who resided in the ancient Snowdonian mountains of northern Wales. There, they inhabited an ‘ambrosial city’ named for its mysterious founder, PHARAON (FAR-ah-on), meaning ‘higher powers’ and possibly alluding to the ‘celestial’ authority of a “Pharaoh.” Perhaps it is the practice of “Druid Craft” to call down ‘higher powers’ to conjure inspiration and magic in the world – perhaps that is what Ceridwen is doing where Taliesin the Bard writes: – “She took to the crafts of the Books of Fferyllt to boil a cauldron of awen.” According to our modern ‘Neo-Pheryllt’ tradition, a manuscript known as the Book of Pheryllt exists from the 16th Century collection attributed to Llywelyn Sion of Glamorgan Wales. Along with its companion volume, Barddas, also purportedly by Llywelyn Sion, the manuscripts moved from the library of Owen Morgan (“Morian”) to the private collection of the Albion Lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids in Oxford (an ancient stronghold of the Pheryllt Order noted by Ralph Waldo Emerson).

The Magical World of Joshua Free – A Road Paved with Druids, Elves and Wizards

(Joshua Free as “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990’s)

With more than two active decades in the underground “New Age” and occult scene (known as “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990’s), over 20 unique arcane texts in print (not including collected anthologies), and now a decade spent as presiding director of the modern Mardukite movement – you may have already experienced some piece of the magical world of Joshua Free personally or more likely one of the many very publicly visible facets of culture and industry that he has influenced from behind the scenes.

Having so adeptly remained in the underground for so many years, it is quite possible that you have never actually read one of these critically acclaimed esoteric and arcane underground bestselling classics by Joshua Free and there is no better time than now to reap the benefits of the experience. Many of the original beloved titles (from 1996–2008) now appear in a special economical anniversary collection available to the new generation of seekers and returning patrons alike.

Joshua Free (also known as “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990’s) released many amazing resources for the modern occultist many years before his launch of the Mardukite organization (primarily emphasizing Mesopotamian studies). Starting with the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK and DRACONOMICON from the 1990’s and continuing with the BOOK OF DRUIDRY and BOOK OF ELVEN-FAERIE in (the earliest part of) the new millennium – thousands of copies of books by Joshua Free were in circulation before writing his magickal magnum opus to date, the infamous ARCANUM materials, first completed at age twenty-four!

When the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK premiered in 1998, the first edition was printed from an old-fashioned typewriter. It was originally reproduced and bound by a (local) Denver Colorado copy-center until they decided to actually read it one day… then they refused serviced because they were afraid of the spiritual implications of having anything to do with it. Thus began a tradition of Joshua Free self-producing his own books long into his days of more commercial distribution. After circulating in the underground for a few months, a second edition was printed exclusively for members of the “Elven Fellowship Circle of Magick” and the “Order of the Crystal Dawn,” two interconnected underground occult organizations in Colorado using the text as a Book of Shadows in the late 1990’s.

Although best known now for his work pertaining specifically to Sumerian and Babylonian paradigms (especially Anunnaki subjects), over twenty years ago, Joshua Free became active in another prominent underground movement – Pheryllt Druidism – a tradition he was initiated into at the age of twelve and remains active in today as a protege of Douglas Monroe. DRACONOMICON began as a notebook kept from the earliest periods of initiation when personal research led into all matters of “Dragons.” It has been revised, changed and enhanced four times prior to reaching its current state – marking nearly twenty years of neodruidic influence before inspiring the release of a separate “Pheryllt” series/trilogy of materials by Joshua Free (of which PHERYLLT I and PHERYLLT II have been released).

Materials from Joshua Free’s original initiation notebooks (not necessarily specific to dragons) was released to the underground as THE BOOK OF DRUIDRY in 2001, forming a second part of the “Druid Compleat” series/trilogy of materials (also available as an anthology of the same title). The other title in this series, THE BOOK OF ELVEN-FAERE, is not only a masterpiece of Druidry and Celtic Magical Tradition in its own right – It also served as a basis of inspiration (along with materials from all the above mentioned titles) to begin the ARCANUM project and ultimately the inception of the Mardukite movement, publicly solidified in 2008 and rooted in these works before the establishment of the widely circulated ‘Mardukite Core‘ (presented as the Necronomicon series/cycle edited by Joshua Free).

SORCERER’S HANDBOOK – “Merlyn Stone” Legacy 20th Anniversary, Early Origins : Arcanum and Mardukite Necronomicon by Joshua Free

The SORCERER’S HANDBOOK OF MERLYN STONE returns for a special 20th Anniversary commemoration after this underground cult classic reached thousands of copies in circulation! …and as a fan-appreciation bonus, this deluxe edition is publicly available at the original 1998 retail price!

Prolific author, underground occult expert and founder of the modern Mardukite Anunnaki movement — JOSHUA FREE — reveals unique details about developing this amazing work as a teenager in the 1990’s, writing as “Merlyn Stone” at the forefront of the new millennium “magick” scene:

“During the 1990’s, public interest in ‘magick’ and ‘occult’ subjects exponentially rose to new heights as few could have anticipated. I appeared on the “New Age” scene – however much ‘underground’ – in 1995 as ‘Merlyn Stone.‘ As I have explained to others and in my recent autobiographical narrative, NABU SPEAKS!, the name was chosen for personal reasons and not as a tribute to the female author (Merlin Stone) of whom I had not even heard of at that time. My research revealed that ‘Merlyn‘ is not really a proper name, although it has been used to refer to particular figures (or a figure) in history, it is actually a title – a Welsh title – that can be best equated to what you might know as a seer or prophet. The contemporary reader may be more familiar with the Judeo-Christian religious context of the title, which in Hebrew is nabih, derived from the Babylonian name: Nabu – a name that many know me as today.”

“As far as I could observe, however, it was 1995 that provided the largest shift. I took a step back, observing the wide-angle, and I saw the prominence of the newly released motion picture The Craft coupled with Sabrina the Teenage Witch as the featured ‘after-school-special’ of the day. Clearly the coast was clear and it was time to come out – come awake!”

Merlyn Stone
(Joshua Free)

“While I was not alone in hearing this ‘call’, the work I had to do – the program I was here to follow – was not something readily understandable to the population – even a “New Age” one. The plans were laid before I ever showed up in this life, but patience was key as was watching for the signposts and keeping my head down. It was going to take everything to bring the work to the heights it can now be found in, but in the 1990’s, the world was not ready for what I had to say concerning the origins of ‘magick’ and the “Mardukite” legacy, so I had to start at the beginning – to build a basis – to work from the foundation rock or stone.”

“All of my original ‘writings’ related to the occult field were actually the subject of ‘in-house’ materials prepared for working groups and research oriented studies that I was personally involved with – and often the ‘founder’ of. I began this work publicly in 1995 and it has now been over twenty years since – half of my current existence. It has taken many forms, though it was easiest for me to begin with that which would be most familiar to my target demographic: esotericists, occult practitioners and the up and coming alien youth that usually had inclinations toward the “New Age” naturally.”

“In 1995, the world was not ready for MARDUKITES. I worked within the paradigms that were much more accessible and did not require a lot of ‘cultural background’ – ritual magick, spellcraft, high psychology and even the ceremonial systems. Additionally, two methodologies I was most concerned with connecting later planned work (now known as “Mardukite”) were Pheryllt Druid material of Douglas Monroe and also “Simon’sNecronomicon, rooted in Mesopotamia.”

“From 1995 through 1999, I assisted in producing not only several ritual collections or ‘Book of Shadows’ for practicing underground groups but also led my own operating and experimental groups and even taught workshops and gave lectures in local Denver-area bookstores and New Age outlets. The sum of all this was collected as the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK OF MERLYN STONE, with additional materials later produced and known now as the Lost Books of Merlyn Stone. Some of these later notebooks and contributions were commissioned for private use or small groups, but even all these twenty years later, some of the records still remain and I have chosen to append them to the traditional presentation of the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK for this twentieth anniversary presentation.”

“Simultaneously revolutionary and introductory in its presentation, the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK OF MERLYN STONE is the inspirational precursor to the materials I later developed more thoroughly in order to establish the “Mardukite” brand of occult interpretation
– mainly ARCANUM: THE GREAT MAGICAL ARCANUM, BOOK OF ELVEN-FAERIE and NECRONOMICON ANUNNAKI BIBLE. These other works represent a more mature development of my contributions from early adulthood, but the Sorcerer’s Handbook of Merlyn Stone and the Lost Books still remain as distant origins to my more recent and better recognized work.”

For centuries, the realm of magick has been sought, and finally what the world awaited for has arrived; a book that tells it all without the unnecessary occult jargon allowing for the quickest personal results in training and development. Just a few of the many topics explored are ritual spellcraft, candle magick, ceremonial high magick, tarot divination, the magick of the Golden Dawn, the complete Enochian arts and yes, even the Necronomicon! Now you can master the powers of magick with a book that has changed the world, launching hundreds of traditions in over a decade! — SORCERER’S HANDBOOK – 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

MODERN DRUIDS!! Self-Initiation Into Druidic Tradition: A Complete Course Curriculum in Druidry!

Hidden within the folds of time, space and the magic that holds it all together, there hides a little known, though popularly growing interest, misunderstood – yet powerful – facet of history, the evolution of human traditions and culture and the reality we are bound to everyday: the DRUIDS

Beyond the simple — though not necessarily inaccurate — stereotypes of white-robed priestly men gathering in stone circles near oak groves, the tradition of the Druids is laden with a much deeper philosophy of living and spiritual mysticism. It is still available to us in such intensity and power and bright colors that we see no equal in cultural histories of the world evolving since ancient Mesopotamia.

THE DRUID COMPLEAT is the most comprehensive course curriculum in the magick, metaphysics and secret wisdom of Druidry, designed for both novice and adept alike by prolific writer and occultist, Joshua Free, who has developed a huge definitive revolutionary literary anthology contribution for the New Age, comparable to his revolutionary “Arcanum” volume and even the “Necronomicon Anunnaki Bible.” Now, come initiate yourself and gain clear understanding of the ‘secret knowledge’ of the Druids unlike anything ever before compiled in print!

Many issues or challenges face a seeker who is called to pursue a modern study of Druidry. For one, there are very few real resources and published printings that provide truly sufficient foundations or practical applications. There is a significant growth of neodruidic literature appearing on the bookstands, but a significant amount of it is insubstantial after closer inspection and further fragmenting the wholeness of pure Druidry. This provides yet another challenge for the modern Druid in relaying its relevance or ‘reality’ to today’s population.

THE DRUID COMPLEAT is perfect for solitary seekers and working groups. Self-paced instruction provided by a leading member of the underground occult “New Age” community, available without membership and in the privacy of your own home, office or secret chamber. For the first time since its prestigious underground release in 1996, Joshua Free’s Druid Compleat is finally available in this all-in-one NEW economical volume, revised, expanded and reformatted to include the complete text from the author’s personal Druidic trilogy, available separately as “Druidry“, “Draconomicon” and “Book of Elven-Faerie.

As is greatly needed for our world and our times – and of which has been known to a select few in the world at all times – the beauty of the pure stream of Druidic philosophy and spirituality can be revealed in the most simple language; as it had always been intended to be – and as it was relayed in the forests and woodlands of the ancient world.

The quest for Druidic Wisdom is not restricted to a specific locale – some small island in Western Europe – or even a special lineage or bloodline; though many modern or neodruids believe that they have connections to the path from past lifetimes. Druidism differs in that the accessibility to universal knowledge is found everywhere in Nature and does not require a visit certain buildings to pay homage to gods or to seek authorities to administer truth – for there is no religion higher than Truth and there is no Man greater than Truth – there are no intermediaries, no external channels, nothing to prevent the seeker from embracing the wholeness of Nature and the Secrets of the Universe on their own terms…

…THIS is what the Druid path offers one who would come to know it in self-honesty.

Mardukite Research Organization & Publishing Group : 2016 Year-in-Review | New Babylon Rising eZine

NBRheaderSMALLnotuse

MARDUKITE YEAR-8 (2016) proved monumental in furthering the work of the Mardukite Research Organization and distribution of Mardukite Truth Seeker Press titles all over the world!

cybervampscollectionsmall Following the revolutionary CyberVamps debut volume in 2015, THE VAMPYRE’S BIBLE, the Beltane 2016 release of CYBERNOMICON completely reevaluated the complimentary synchronicity of the complete works of modern mystic and hybrid messenger Joshua Free — whether dubbed “Mardukite” or “CyberVamp” or “Systemology,” (etc.) the bigger picture for our times has become clearer than ever before!

pherlytcoll23 Continuing the widely anticipated and highly controversial Books of Fferyllt series first introduced with volume one of the BOOK OF PHERYLLT in 2014 with an emphasis on the “Dragon” in history, magic and human consciousness, Pheryllt neodruid initiate Joshua Free provided the second installment BOOK OF PHERYLLT in time for Samhain 2016. It emphasizes the secrets of “Tree Ogham” and herbalism in druid tradition. (Both the CYBERNOMICON and PHERYLLT VOL 2 were first published as limited edition hardcovers for Mardukite Chamberlains prior to paperback release.)

2016reissuecollectionsmall As it turned out, 2016 was a banner year for “Anniversary Editions” commissioned by the Mardukite Truth Seeker Press commemorating long-standing underground occult classics developed by Joshua Free, dating back to his years writing under the name “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990s.

DRACONOMICON, first published underground in 1996 for the Mystics of the Earth (Draconic Celtic Lodge of Druids) celebrates its 20TH ANNIVERSARY this year! This original classic by neodruid Joshua Free predated the authors more recent official work with New Forest Centre of Douglas Monroe and the Books of Pheryllt literary series.

JOSHUA FREE’s unpublished manuscript titled “Applied Druidology” in 2001 served as reference material for later works including “Book of Elven-Faerie” and “Arcanum.” It appeared underground under the title “Druidry” in 2012 and has now been re-released to the general public for its 15TH ANNIVERSARY edition as the THE BOOK OF DRUIDRY, complimenting a growing line of pocket eco-editions from the Mardukite Publishing Group.

BoZthumbcvr In addition to the CyberVamps and Pheryllt Druid paradigms, the Mardukite-specific work from Mesopotamia also saw restoration this year, including a new 5TH ANNIVERSARY pocket eco-edition of the ceremonial guide to the Babylonian Akitu New Year Festival in the BOOK OF ZAGMUK BY NABU. Furthermore, a new edition of the “Book of Sajaha the Seer” reappeared as the LOST BOOK OF SHAYAHA.

Plans are still being developed for the National Mardukite NexGenCon scheduled for the August 2017 eclipse at Carhenge, Nebraska following a Wizards of the Wasteland spiritual retreat in the South Dakota Badlands.

DRUIDOLOGY : Dragon Kings, Druids & Pheryllt, 15th Anniversary “Book of Druidry” by Joshua Free, (Underground Classic Restored)

druidryfullcvribanner

Venture deep into the folds of the Green World and initiate yourself to the greatest of the Celtic Mysteries – the Wisdom of the Druids!

Discovering druidic wisdom and dragon power of the ancient woodland mystics has never been more clear for our times. It’s time to come and initiate yourself and on a journey into Groves of the Enchanted Forest.

Drawing upon two decades experience in neodruidism, Joshua Free’s original underground masterpiece, “Druidry”, completes a long-planned trilogy of superior resources for modern druid seekers, which includes with “Book of Elven-Faerie” and “Draconomicon.”

druidry15thannivthumb I completed the material for “Druidry” shortly after my disappearance as “Merlyn Stone” in 2001. Here it is, fifteen years after the fact, being released for widespread distribution for the first time in the history of its underground existence – influencing the New Age in covert ways, something that I have done extensively for these subjects, whether you might recognize where my work and words have made their appearance to you… I assure you they have. “Druidry” is simply one more example of this – one that has stood the test of time among my literary contributions and is even older than Book of Elven-Faerie (the project that I began in 2002 after completing “Druidry”).

lapis lazuli cloak 1 Recently, a related literary contribution of mine, the Draconomicon also celebrated an anniversary: of twenty years! Combined, the Book of Elven-Faerie, Draconomicon and Book of Druidry discourses compose material released as Druid Compleat anthology (formerly titled: “A Complete Course Curriculum in Druidry”). All of this work is a reflection of material collected during my participation in the modern Pheryllt Druidism movement, heavily weighted by the work of Douglas Monroe and his Merlyn Trilogy.

13043328_1691299604455500_7570410307930593095_nvv Many things have transpired since Mardukite Truth Seeker Press released Druidry in 2012, for its first public edition (although it was intentionally not made available to extended distribution channels). During the same time as this work was being developed, Douglas Monroe released the third and final installment of the “Merlyn Trilogy” (titled “Deepteachings of Merlyn”) and included an “interlogue” essay contributed by yours truly. At the same time I was installed to the Twelfth Chair of the Round Table Council maintained by Douglas Monroe and the New Forest Centre. Things had come full circle…

druidry15thannivthumb Providing a new vision for modern Druidry, neodruid expert Joshua Free explores the deep teachings of Druidic Lore, including the core doctrines and codes, triad teachings of the Bards, natural philosophy, the construction of ritual tools and performance of ceremonial magic dedicated to trees and Nature.

Whether you are new to Druidry or simply looking to refresh your own practices, this concise, expertly written and beautifully presented guide to the ancient mysteries will re-enchant your everyday life with the Wisdom of the Druids!

moroiiadlksgnkldsabsmsm The Dragon – the Druidic Legacy is an important part of the history and traditions of cultural magic and the development of human civilization as a whole. Nothing is separate. And this is one of the messages we learn from the Druids. That everything is connected together and we cannot see things in exclusion to other things if we are to see things for how they truly are – for the Druids seek to see with Truth.

Hidden in the depths of the Dragon lair is a legacy of bloodlines, secret pacts and cults, the symbolism of an entire universe and the means by which it can be controlled. This is perhaps one of the best kept secrets or grand conspiracies in the history of occultism. It is the undefiled, raw and primordial truth of things – just as we would expect the Druids to understand them.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM JOSHUA FREE, CREATOR OF THE DRACONOMICON

“Twenty years ago I became active in Pheryllt Druidism. The Draconomicon began as a notebook kept from that period – during a time when I investigated all matters of Dragons. It has been revised, changed and enhanced four times prior to reaching its current state – marking its twenty years of influence in the Underground neo-Druidic movement.”

“When the Draconomicon was being developed by the Mardukite Research Organization for its 15th Anniversary edition in 2011, things were different for me as the creator. At that time, I had not yet been officially installed into Douglas Monroe’s Pheryllt New Forest Council, nor had the Deepteachings of Merlyn (the third book by Douglas Monroe) been released, which even included an essay of mine.”

DRACONOMICON also represents the forerunner for the druidic literary series that Joshua Free is currently involved with – the BOOK OF PHERYLLT – or BOOKS OF FFERYLLT… of which two of three volumes are now available to the public (the first of which excerpts previous editions of the DRACONOMICON directly). Not only is the series of significance to Mardukites, but they have even been adopted by Monroe’s New Forest druidic workshops.

The Seeker is led into deep forests of woodland mystery wherein lies the Great Magical Arcanum, initiation to the Divine Secrets of the Universe hidden within the runes of twenty-one Keys – the OGHAM – the secret language and alphabet of the woods.

ladder For two decades a modern movement of neodruids influenced by modern Pheryllt Druidism have become bystanders amidst the unbreakable schism. Alleged authorities on Druidry raise one hand screaming how these documents supporting an ancient Welsh Bardic Druid (and Pheryllt) tradition are a hoax, but with the other hand they borrow from these same sources for their own purposes.

The authentic premise guiding the modern Pheryllt Druid tradition are works that exist from the Welsh MS. Society and the continuing efforts of the National Welsh Eisteddfodd in preserving the genuine Celtic Bardic tradition in Wales. Sources for the Ogham Tree Alphabet include the “Ogham Tract” and 14th Century “Book of Ballymote” transcribed by George Calder as “Auraicept na n’Eces” – named after the opening lines meaning “primer of the poets” or “beginning of the lessons.”

All modern Ogham Tree systems revived for ‘New Age‘ practices derive from the Scholar’s Primer. The Ogham origins, however, are from the Tower of Babel and attributed to the “god” OGMA SUN-FACE, Patron to Bardic Druids (poets, writers, scribes and artists) and the “Mercurial” messenger current that appears elsewhere with Nabu, Merlyn, Thoth, Hermes, and so forth.

In ancient Keltia, the Druid Order consisted of learned men, those educated in Bardic Arts: cosmology, native history, legendary history of heroes and spirituality, penal laws and punishments, geography, healing, botanical medicine, astronomy, astrology and magic. It is no wonder the Bard is viewed as transmitter or catalyst of awen, the essence, divine spark or spirit of inspiration that the Greeks termed gnosis. It is to the ‘ebb and flow’ of the awen field that the poetic genius of Bards is attributed.

True Meaning of Christmas | Winter Solstice : Boughs of Holly & Mistletoe

CHRISTMAS is a contemporary Christian observance of the birthday of Jesus Christ, for whom the religion is named. It is modeled after the much older pagan celebration of Yule or the Winter Solstice. In the 4th Century, all official Christian Holy Days (holidays) were celebrated synchronously with the ancient wheel of the year. St. John the Baptist Day falls directly on the Summer
Solstice
. The “Feast of All Souls” replaced Samhain and the “Feast of the Assumption” is observed on Lughnassadh…
—excerpted from ARCANUM by Joshua Free

Druidic traditions of the Winter Solstice surface to mind more quickly, since they are the most relatively recent customs and rites observed in the Western Europe and our known history, from which America is founded. Ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians also observed the astrophysical phenomenon of the solstice.

arcanum2012thumb Ancient “pagans,” understood the Winter Solstice as a turning point or renewal of the year. The strength of the Sun grows from this point, being the darkest day, until the Summer Solstice (the longest day). The Norse people were the ones to
call the festival “Yule,” meaning, “wheel,” which qualifies us to believe that they too
understood this symbolism.

rocks1230001k During the winter season, at a time when the wildlife is hibernating and quiet and the Green World of Nature appears to have recessed into a state of retirement, the evergreen trees stood out among other trees. They were revered for their ability to sustain the harsh season, observed to be better equipped to handle the pressure of wind-storms and the weight of snow. Their resilience and longevity was attributed to this very fact; they were able to “bend” gracefully to external influences, while still maintaining their own independence.

druidcomptinythumb YULE LOGS existed in pre-Christian Phrygia/Galatia (Turkey) and Mesopotamia all the way across Europe to the British Isles. It was kindled on the remains of the log saved from the prior year’s observation, after the ashes have been removed. The large log was fed into the hearth over a period of twelve nights (until Twelfth Night).

Meanwhile, the ashes from the previous year are ritually cast about the field to ensure fertility for the coming year. A part of the Yule Log is always kept to use in kindling the next year’s fire. This is retained for use as a sacred amulet of protection for the household all year long, often kept near the hearth to ward away lightning.

"INVADER ZIM"

“INVADER ZIM”

As much as the Christmas tree has essentially nothing to with the religious event of Jesus’ birth, the Elven-Norse symbolism of the “Holly King” or “Santa Claus” has even less.

Today, a mythos of Santa Claus is recognized that is far removed from its original form. The Yuletide colors have always been red and green and occasionally white, gold and silver. These are the earth tones that Santa originally wore. In the early 1900s, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company used their own color scheme to harmonize their product with Santa and the holidays. The motif stuck. They were successful in directing a cultural shift in accepting this now famous red and white suited archetype.
