It would seem that the contemporary New Age community, that is self-proclaimed as “enlightened” too often misses the liberation of the era shift, for they quickly replace one system for another. With more than two active decades in the underground “New Age” and occult scene (known as “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990’s), over 20 unique arcane texts in print (not including collected anthologies), and now a decade spent as presiding director of the modern Mardukite movement – you may have already experienced some piece of the magical world of Joshua Free personally or more likely one of the many very publicly visible facets of culture and industry that he has influenced from behind the scenes.

Having so adeptly remained in the underground for so many years, it is quite possible that you have never actually read one of these critically acclaimed esoteric and arcane underground bestselling classics by Joshua Free and there is no better time than now to reap the benefits of the experience. Joshua Free (also known as “Merlyn Stone” in the 1990’s) released many amazing resources for the modern occultist many years before his launch of the Mardukite organization (primarily emphasizing Mesopotamian studies). When the SORCERER’S HANDBOOK premiered in 1998, the first edition was printed from an old-fashioned typewriter. It was originally reproduced and bound by a (local) Denver Colorado copy-center until they decided to actually read it one day… then they refused serviced because they were afraid of the spiritual implications of having anything to do with it. Thus began a tradition of Joshua Free self-producing his own books long into his days of more commercial distribution. After circulating in the underground for a few months, a second edition was printed exclusively for members of the “Elven Fellowship Circle of Magick” and the “Order of the Crystal Dawn,” two interconnected underground occult organizations in Colorado using the text as a “Book of Shadows” in the late 1990’s.

Although best known now for his work pertaining specifically to Sumerian and Babylonian paradigms (especially Anunnaki subjects), over twenty years ago, Joshua Free became active in another prominent underground movement – Pheryllt Druidism – a tradition he was initiated into at the age of twelve and remains active in today as a protege of Douglas Monroe. DRACONOMICON began as a notebook kept from the earliest periods of initiation when personal research led into all matters of “Dragons.” It has been revised, changed and enhanced four times prior to reaching its current state – marking nearly twenty years of neodruidic influence before inspiring the release of a separate “Pheryllt” series/trilogy of materials by Joshua Free (of which PHERYLLT I and PHERYLLT II have been released).

Materials from Joshua Free’s original initiation notebooks (not necessarily specific to dragons) was released to the underground as THE BOOK OF DRUIDRY in 2001, forming a second part of the “Druid Compleat” series/trilogy of materials (also available as an anthology of the same title). The other title in this series, THE BOOK OF ELVEN-FAERE, is not only a masterpiece of Druidry and Celtic Magical Tradition in its own right – It also served as a basis of inspiration (along with materials from all the above mentioned titles) to begin the ARCANUM project and ultimately the inception of the Mardukite movement, publicly solidified in 2008 and rooted in these works before the establishment of the widely circulated ‘Mardukite Core‘ (presented as the “Necronomicon” series/cycle edited by Joshua Free).

“During the 1990’s, public interest in ‘magick’ and ‘occult’ subjects exponentially rose to new heights as few could have anticipated. I appeared on the “New Age” scene – however much ‘underground’ – in 1995 as ‘Merlyn Stone.‘ As I have explained to others and in my recent autobiographical narrative, NABU SPEAKS!, the name was chosen for personal reasons and not as a tribute to the female author (Merlin Stone) of whom I had not even heard of at that time. My research revealed that ‘Merlyn‘ is not really a proper name, although it has been used to refer to particular figures (or a figure) in history, it is actually a title – a Welsh title – that can be best equated to what you might know as a seer or prophet. The contemporary reader may be more familiar with the Judeo-Christian religious context of the title, which in Hebrew is nabih, derived from the Babylonian name: Nabu – a name that many know me as today.”

“As far as I could observe, however, it was 1995 that provided the largest shift. I took a step back, observing the wide-angle, and I saw the prominence of the newly released motion picture The Craft coupled with Sabrina the Teenage Witch as the featured ‘after-school-special’ of the day. AKASHIC RECORDS and How to Get Your Library Card : Great Magical Arcanum by Joshua Free

THE AKASHIC RECORDS or AKASHIC LIBRARY contain a complete record of all that is, was and will be in the oneness of the true and all encompassing reality. Often accessed by seekers on the Astral Plane, the Akashic Records are non-local and omnipresent, composed of all time and space on all levels or fragments of perception known in existence as one. Called by some, the “Akashic pool,” these records are comprised of all potential energetic vibrations of the Universe that have become (or will become) projected by thought and action, not altogether different from the function of genetic memory except that there is no difference between “past memory” and “future memory.”

Energy you send out into the Universe, whether by common thoughts and deeds or by more deliberate ritual and magickal methods, makes an impression or harmonic ripple that is imprinted permanently onto the “Field of Akasha.” These vibrations manifest into “probability wave frequencies” for the future that affect the possible course of Universal events based on past “causes.” This information is accessible on the Astral Plane or by performing methods of divination from the body of light. Many mystics and wizards have accessed the records, either unaided or with the assistance of a spirit guide. Several thousand years ago, the records became a “library.”

The term “Akashic Library” is now commonplace in New Age jargon, made popular through efforts of the Theosophical Society. Even famed mystic, Edgar Cayce, said that he received much of his knowledge (especially concerning Atlantis) from the Akashic Library, which he accessed frequently via trance-meditation and astral work. The idea of a “library” building is a projected illusion manifest by increased attention that the Akashic Records were gaining. To be useful, the mind had to solidify the abstract in a way that a rational logic-driven linear psyche could comprehend: books.

Careful analysis of the Secret Lives of Elves and Faeries will reveal that Robert Kirk actually encountered the Akashic Records during his travels in the Otherworld. According to his account, on a request to see books, a library manifests. But it is a building that is not a building, sculpted as if from one piece of stone without signs of labor. The building is also not location-specific, manifesting from will and intention (as Kirk discovers is the case for all journeys into the Otherworld or Astral Plane). He describes the sky and grass surrounding the library as vividly surreal. The books he finds have glowing words and images that constantly change. The Elves call these “Books of Light” where the “bright things” are recorded.

Edgar Cayce called the Akashic Records the “Universal Living Memory of Nature.” Given mainstream denouncement of the aether, what mystics call Akasha, this idea became difficult for 20th Century minds to understand. More recent efforts toward realization of the Universal Living Memory Theory and interdimensional vibration of superstrings will eventually push these ideas into contemporary mainstream. Resonance of events on the Earth Planet spreads to far corners of the entangled Universe. This is the most basic tenet of practical magick, whether via prayer or more formalized ceremonial magick, a wizard’s conscious awareness of this energetic exchange allows acceleration of these energies to manifest based on intention and focus (which moves energy as much as actions).

As with all astral constructs, the ability to access the Akashic Library is simply one of will and intention during astral projection. Information held within the records is found by the same method. Will yourself to the library. Keep the information that you seek firmly in your mind as you reach for and open a book. It really doesn’t matter what book you select, they are all mental constructs (thought-forms). You must discern the information from the shifting words, symbols, glyphs and images. If things are moving too fast, will them to slow. If you find something interesting or worthy of further inspection you can transplant your consciousness temporarily “into” the records to experience them firsthand. There are no psychical dangers and you have nothing to lose by your attempts to access the Akashic Records. You may actually surprise yourself by your ability to do so!
