Joshua Free introduces next generation to new ‘Complete Elvenomicon’ anthology

Webmaster’s Note: This year (2025) author and mystic philosopher, Joshua Free, celebrates writing 100 individual unique titles in the past 30 years — six of these books are contained in the new ‘Complete Elvenomicon’ anthology for its 20th anniversary commemoration. (View the publisher’s basic book description ‘HERE‘ from the necrogate.com press release.)

“My participation in the legacy behind THE COMPLETE ELVENOMICON began in the mid-1990’s amidst a critical resurgence of ‘New Age’ interests—and foremost among these popular revivals: the Celts and Druids. Each of its parts is an integral of a greater body of work pertaining to my personal involvement with Pheryllt and Elven-Faerie traditions of Druidism for thirty years. This material was imparted to me through personal ‘apprenticeship’ directly by its modern developers—as reflected in the original Elvenomicon series (and also my work concerning the Draconomicon).”

“The original ‘Elvenomicon‘ volume contained a trilogy. Early versions first began circulating in the underground (in 2004) as ‘The Book of Elven-Faerie’, but I later renamed it ‘Elvenomicon‘ (in 2019) to avoid confusing the total collection of work with the title of the first discourse it contained: Book of Elven-Faerie—now retitled Secret Book of Elven-Faerie for the 20th Anniversary reissue. It is really a separate discourse from the other two parts in the trilogy: Greenwood Forest Grimoire (now reissued as ‘The Enchanted
Forest’
) and The Elven-Faerie Grimoire. Collectively, this trilogy comprises Elvenomicon ‘Series-1’ and contains my own presentation of this specific Elven-Faerie Druidic Tradition, now standing for 20 years past.”

“Materials for the Elvenomicon resulted from many years of research, deliberation and contemplation spent in personal dedication to the Elven-Faerie Tradition before attempting to set this version of it in down in print. It is only now in this new deluxe edition that the first series/trilogy is joined with other parts that were not originally included—and of which have only recently been released as a companion ‘Series-2’ trilogy. The original presentation was edited for specific ‘commercial specifications’ prior to founding the Mardukite movement (and its Truth Seeker Press) in 2008. Such limiting considerations are no longer relevant for this large deluxe 20th Anniversary edition.

“Although most New Age texts equate Elves and other elemental faerie beings exclusively with the Otherworld or Astral Plane, more experienced Seekers and practitioners understand the connection between these races and a “very real” legacy of Elven-Dragon traditions and the Tuatha d’Anu migrating westward across Europe from Mesopotamia and Anatolia, carrying with them a vast tradition and repository of knowledge essentially predating any fixedly established ‘Ancient Mystery School’.”

[This blogpost is an excerpt from the foreword by Rowen Gardner for the upcoming 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition hardcover DRACONOMICON BY JOSHUA FREE.]

Joshua Free is famously known for proposing the origins of Druidism as Mesopotamia… This theme is sure to catch many folk off guard and has been a constant source of contention between the author and many of his harsher critics and less informed readers. There is little doubt that it is a shocking or surprising conclusion expressed by the author for at least two decades—but the author has remained steadfast, again, in their resolve that their “intuitions” were right. This pursuit became such an occupation for the author that he spent most of this current millennium attempting to establish this point to esoteric audiences…with mixed results.”

“One theory put forth by Joshua Free, keystone to his writings, regards a prehistoric collective migration of Mesopotamian systemology across Europe, citing examples of the La Tene culture and marked by the indigenous traditions developed later in vicinity to the Danube River, one of two pathways he suggested that it probably traveled.”

Joshua Free states that it is only the result of Roman intervention and the domination of the ‘Classical World’ over the former ancient one that pushed these traditions and evidence for them into specific concentrated locations—such as we easily can see with the ‘Celtic World’ that is traditionally attributed exclusively to the British Isles or Ireland, yet it once served as a dominating influence for most of the European continent. How easily we forget…”

“One additional facet of Joshua Free’s theory is that prior to the migration, a localized concentration of this population emerged from the Ancient Near East and gathered in ancient Anatolia (modern day Turkey)—the place of the legendary “Drunemeton,” a secret birthplace of Druidry that only the highest ranks among them knew of and would regularly return to during their lifetimes. All wild theories?”

“In April 2019, the BBC headlines read: ‘DNA Reveals Origins of Stonehenge Builders.’ Articles provided research summaries published in Nature, Ecology & Evolution. It described a neolithic western migration in c. 6000 B.C. from Anatolia, modern-day Turkey, across two routes—the Mediterranean and Danube River Valley—which spread early Mesopotamian knowledge of agriculture across Europe, reaching Britain by c. 4000 B.C…”

“I’ve since decided to take the writings by Joshua Free even more seriously. I would encourage anyone else to perhaps do the same…” –Rowen Gardner
